DESMA, the mechanical engineering company, demonstrated its impressive capability at this year's most important event for the elastomer industry. The distinction of the DKT Product Award underlines the technological ambitions and future success of DESMA.
This year, DESMA presented its products on a larger stand at DKT than ever before. The company demonstrated its capabilities on 200 m² and two floors. Visitors from 35 countries had the opportunity to see two machines equipped with the latest technology, and to experience how modern elastomer processing works.
DKG Product Award
DESMA is particularly proud that SmartConnect4.U has been given the DKG Product Award in the category of Raw Materials and Auxiliary Materials.
The selection committee commented: "Also in the rubber industry, the interaction of man and machine requires adapted practical solutions. Here, SmartConnect4.U offers digital networking of injection molding machines and peripheral systems using generic interfaces and systems. It enables increased efficiency and availability of the entire system in elastomer processing. Furthermore, the approach offers the individualization and traceability of products in an increasingly flexible production".
Martin Schürmann sees the award as both confirmation and incentive: "We would like to sincerely thank DKG once again for this honourable award. Since the Product Award is selected by a scientific advisory board and awarded by the German Rubber Society, it expresses the recognition of an entire industry of our product developments on the subject of Industry 4.0. This supports and motivates us to continue our efforts to contribute to the success of our industry and customers."
With the SmartConnect 4.U product series DESMA has a proven history of demonstrating how intelligent networking can make production processes more flexible, efficient and resource-saving. The systems ensure higher plant and machine availability, transparent and better product quality as well as unit cost-oriented production efficiency. DESMA will continue to further develop the system for the benefit of the customers.
DESMA Records 2018
In the yearly RECORDS magazine, presented by Martin Schürmann in Nuremberg, DESMA takes a look back at the success of the past year. In 2017, DESMA obtained orders from all over the world for 517 machines. Showcasing the individual location activities, this year's RECORDS is dedicated to the customer success; ensured by DESMA services and the 588 DESMA employees.
Exhibits on the display
The two exhibits on the display were received with great interest by the DKT attendees.
A D 969.100 Z was on display to produce sample parts; without waste or rework. This was made possible by a ZeroWaste ITM pot. This pot was further developed with eight temperature-controlled nozzles for sprueless direct injection. The integrated internal mold pressure sensor is used to switch off the transfer process and maintains a constant product volume. A swivelling screw cylinder allows compounds and tools to be changed within 10 minutes.
In a vertical BENCHMARK D 968.250 ZOB, DESMA installed the new FlowControl E-Drive cold runner with electrically controlled shut-off nozzles. The filling process of each nozzle can be controlled and balanced individually via the machine controller or via the internal mould pressure sensor PressureSense.
Both machines were equipped with the SmartConnect 4.U cockpit, which creates new dimensions in the communication between machine manufacturers and users. Enormous optimization potentials can be exploited with online support and the online shop for spare parts via electronic machine files, automatic monitoring of the machine status and an intelligent maintenance tool.
SmartTrace for transparency
The detailed documentation of the production and traceability of individual parts are becoming increasingly important. With SmartTrace, DESMA showcased its proven solution when the produced article becomes the information carrier.
To start with, an integrated laser scans the QR code of the tool in the injection molding machine and all data required for the process is automatically displayed. Optionally, a hand-held scanner can be employed to read the compound used and to link it with the relevant process parameters. After demolding, a laser station provides the article with a QR code. This allows the principal process values to be read and traced easily and at any time.
